Biography of Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Anne Garner was born on April 17, 1972 in Houston, Texas. She is an American actress.

Jennifer Garner grew up as the second of three sisters in Charleston (West Virginia). With great enthusiasm for stage work, she took ballet lessons for years. As she herself admitted, she was not very talented for it.

After graduating from high school, she attended Denison University in Ohio from 1990, initially majoring in chemistry. She later switched to the theater because the stage beckoned again. After graduating from university in 1994, she moved to New York, where she worked as a theater assistant. A little later she got her first small roles on television, for example in the series Significant Others.

In 2000 she married fellow actor and film producer Scott Foley and divorced him in 2003. She then had a brief relationship with fellow actor Michael Vartan.

She got her first leading role in 2001 in the hit action series Alias. In 2002, she received a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Sydney Bristow. A first attempt to make a career in leading roles on the big screen was quite successful in 2004 with the comedy 13 Going on 30.

In 2004, she took on a supporting role from the comic adaptation Daredevil with Elektra as the title character. The strip was moderately successful in US cinemas. In 2013, she had a supporting role in Jean-Marc Vallée's film Dallas Buyers Club opposite Matthew McConaughey.

From 2004, Garner was in a relationship with fellow actor Ben Affleck. They married on June 29, 2005 in the Caribbean, on December 1, 2005 their first daughter was born. Their second daughter was born on January 6, 2009, followed by their first son on February 27, 2012. Garner took her husband's last name and has been called Jennifer Affleck ever since. But she kept the name Garner as her stage name.

On June 30, 2015, one day after their tenth wedding anniversary, Garner and Affleck announced that they were divorcing.

On August 20, 2018, she was honored with the 2641st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
