Biography of Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz was born on March 7, 1970 in Westminster and grew up in the suburb of Hampstead Garden.

She is the daughter of Edith Ruth, a teacher and psychotherapist born in Vienna, Austria, and George Weisz, a Hungarian engineer. Her parents moved to England during World War II.

She works for television, and her career on the big screen begins in 1996 with Bernardo Bertolucci's film, Stealing Beauty.

In 2001 she starred opposite Hugh Grant in the film About a Boy and returned to the theater with The Shape of Things. She achieved popularity with The Mummy movies, her sequel The Mummy Returns, and Enemy at the Gates.

In 2006 she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Tessa Quayle in the film The Constant Gardener by Fernando Meirelles.

She starred in the film Ágora (2009) by Spanish director Alejandro Amenábar, playing Hypatia, also The Whistleblower, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2010. That same year, she was a guest actress in the animated series The Simpsons, in the episode How Munched is That Birdie in the Window?

During 2011, among other roles, she worked on the thriller Dream House, alongside Daniel Craig. She participated in the 2012 action film The Bourne Legacy based on the Robert Ludlum books.

In 2017, she was the lead in My Cousin Rachel, and in 2018, she co-starred in The Mercy.

She was engaged to American film director and producer Darren Aronofsky from 2001 to November 2010. They had a son, Henry Chance, born on May 31, 2006 in New York. On November 9, 2010, they announce their marriage breakup after nine years together.

She later is romantically related to the British actor Daniel Craig with whom she finally married on June 22, 2011 in a secret ceremony in New York, after several months of dating. Only four guests attended the wedding, including Weisz's son and Craig's daughter. On September 1, 2018, the birth of her daughter was reported.
