Biography of Alicia Vikander

Alicia Amanda Vikander was born on October 3, 1988 in Gothenburg. She is a Swedish actress and dancer. She won the 2016 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the biopic The Danish Girl (2015).

Vikander is the daughter of actress Maria Fahl Vikander and a psychiatrist. She studied at the Stockholm Kungliga Svenska Balletskolan from 2004 to 2007 and acted in various musicals at the Gothenburg Opera. After that she worked in various television productions, e.g. in documentaries and short films. She is best known for her role in the Swedish soap opera Andra Avenyn.

For her debut role in the feature film Pure, she received the Rising Star Award for Best Young Actress at the Stockholm Film Festival in 2010 and was awarded the Swedish Film Institute's Guldbagge Award for Best Actress in 2011.

At the Berlinale 2011, Vikander was honored as a Shooting Star. Due to her greater popularity, she also received international role offers. In 2012, she starred alongside Jude Law and Keira Knightley in the British-French production Anna Karenina.

The Swedish edition of Elle voted Vikander the best dressed Swedish woman in January 2012. In 2016 she was invited as one of 683 personalities by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a new member.

In the reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, which premiered in March 2018, Vikander succeeded Angelina Jolie. Shortly after her occupation as Lara Croft became known, she also founded her own production company together with her agent Charles Collier under the name "Vikarious" with the aim of promoting female filmmakers and broadening the selection of female cast roles. The first production – the English-language sibling drama Euphoria by Swedish director Lisa Langseth – premiered in 2017. She had previously worked with Langseth and starred alongside Eva Green.

In 2019, Vikander starred in Wash Westmoreland's film adaptation of Earthquake Bird. In this role, she is fluent in Japanese in addition to English.

Since filming The Light Between Oceans (2016), she has been in a relationship with the German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender, whom she married in October 2017. In 2021, Vikander and Fassbender became parents for the first time.
