Phoebe Tonkin was born on July 12, 1989. She is an Australian actress.

Phoebe Tonkin began taking ballet and hip-hop classes at the age of four. She took acting classes from the age of twelve, for example at the Australian Theater for Young People (ATYP). At Queenwood School in Balmoral, she took private acting lessons in addition to regular classes and took part in school plays.

Tonkin had her first role in the Australian youth series H2O - Just Add Water, with which she became internationally known. In October 2007, she attended Britain's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards alongside her co-stars Claire Holt and Cariba Heine.

In 2009, she starred as Lexi in three episodes of the Logie Award-winning Australian drama series Packed to The Rafters. This was followed in 2010 by a starring role in the adventure film Tomorrow, When the War Began as Fiona Maxwell and guest appearances on the award-winning soap opera Home and Away.

In 2011 she stood in front of the camera again alongside Cariba Heine in the 3D horror film Bait 3D. She also landed the lead role as Faye Chamberlain in The CW series The Secret Circle in 2011, which was canceled after one season. The following year she got the role of Hayley Marshall in the series Vampire Diaries, also conceived by Kevin Williamson, which she has also embodied in his spin-off The Originals since 2013. In both series, she again starred alongside Claire Holt, with whom she is also a private friend.

Tonkin is also friends with Teresa Palmer, with whom she ran the YourZenLife website for a number of years. From 2013 to March 2017 Tonkin was in a relationship with Paul Wesley. As a model, she has done a number of photo shoots, including for Vogue Australia, Australian youth magazines Girlfriend and Dolly, and a Vauxhall ad, and is a testimonial for Chanel.
