Sonam Kapoor was born in Bombay, Maharashtra on June 9, 1985. She is also known by her married name Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, is an Indian actress popular in the Bollywood film environment. Kapoor is one of the highest paid actresses in the industry and she has won several awards and accolades, including a Filmfare Award and a National Film Award.
Daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, Sonam studied theater and dramatic arts in Singapore. She served as an assistant director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Black. She made her acting debut in Bhansali's dramatic film Saawariya (2007), for which she was nominated for a Filmfare Award in the category of Best Female Debut. Her first commercial success came three years later with I Hate Luv Storys from director Punit Malhotra (2010).
After a series of commercial failures, the sleeper hit Raanjhanaa (2013) marked a turning point in her career, earning her the first nomination in the category of best leading actress. She later starred in the romantic comedies Khoobsurat (2014) and Dolly Ki Doli (2015), earning both nominations for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.
Kapoor played a princess in the melodrama Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), one of Bollywood's most financially successful films, appearing next in the thriller Neerja (2016) and the comedy Veere Di Wedding (2018), both of which are among the highest-grossing Hindi films with a female lead. For playing the title character in the former, received a special mention at the National Film Awards and won in the category of best actress at the Filmfare Critics Awards.
Kapoor supports breast cancer awareness and LGBT rights. She is married to businessman Anand Ahuja. The ceremony was held on May 8, 2018 in the seaside suburb of Bandra. Known in the media for her outspoken personality, she is often recognized as one of the most notable celebrities in Bollywood. From 2012 to In 2016, she appeared in the famous Celebrity 100 list of Forbes India magazine based on her income and popularity. She was named the woman of the year in India by GQ magazine in 2013.
She announced in March 2022 that she was expecting her first child. Her son was born on August 20 of that year.
