Biography of Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet was born on October 5, 1975, in Reading, Berkshire, England.

She is the daughter of Sally Anne Bridges, a waitress, and Roger John Winslet, a contractor. She has two sisters, Beth and Anna, and a brother, Joss.

She studied drama at age eleven at Redroofs Theater School and at thirteen she made her acting debut on the London stage.

She worked for television, in the series Casualty, from 1989, Dark Season, from 1991, and Get Back, from 1992.

Her first work for the cinema was in the film Heavenly Creatures, by New Zealander Peter Jackson, although her true international release was with Sense and Sensibility, for which she was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe as best actress in distribution.

Her greatest popularity was achieved after her leading role in Titanic, which gave her another Oscar nomination for Best Actress. In 1999 she shoots Holy Smoke (1999) with director Jane Campion.

On October 12, 2000, her daughter, Mia Threapleton, was born, and she released the album Listen to the Storyteller, for which she won a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Record forChildren.

In 2001 her song What If? reaches number 6 of the best sellers in the United Kingdom. The song appears in the movie Christmas Carol in which she voiced a character. The same year she divorced her husband Jim Threapleton, becoming involved with director Sam Mendes.

In 2002 she works in Iris, directed by Richard Eyre and based on the homonymous novel by John Bayley. She co-starred with Judi Dench and Kate earning two Oscar nominations the following year. She also worked on Enigma, set in World War II.

In 2003, her son Joe Alphie Winslet-Mendes was born.

She subsequently premiered her Finding Neverland and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and for this film she again opted for the Oscar, the Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild Award and the BAFTA for Best Actress.

In 2006, she could be seen in Little Children, the new version of The Politician and The Holiday, being nominated for the Oscar award, the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for the former, which made her into one of the most nominated actresses in the history of the Academy Awards.

In 2008, Revolutionary Road was released, directed by her husband, Sam Mendes, and in which she co-stars with Leonardo DiCaprio, her reunion after the successful Titanic, with which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Dramatic Actress. In the same year she made The Reader, directed by Stephen Daldry, and for which finally on February 22, 2009, she won her first Oscar for Best Actress.

On March 15, 2010, she separated from Sam Mendes.

She participated along with other internationally famous stars in the film Contagion directed by Steven Soderbergh and Roman Polanski directs her in Carnage.

In 2012, for her work in Mildred Pierce, she was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe.

She played Jeanine Matthews in the 2014 science fiction film Divergent and in 2015, she reprized the role in the second installment of the Divergent series:Insurgent. In the same year she made her next film, an adaptation of the Australian gothic novel The Dressmaker, for which she received an AACTA Award for Best Actress.

During 2016, she worked in the thriller film Triple 9 appearing as a Russian-Israeli gangster. The following year she released Wonder Wheel, directed by Woody Allen, and set on Coney Island in the 1950s. She also appeared this year in the film The Mountain Between Us.

In 2019, she voiced Moominvalley, an animated television series about the Moomins, and co-starred with Susan Sarandon in Blackbird, the Danish version of Silent Heart (2014). She later had the role of Mary Anning in Ammonite (2020), set in 1840 England.

Winslet was a producer and star of the HBO miniseries, Mare of Easttown (2021). Her performance received very good reviews and the series was a success with audiences. She received the second Emmy from her thanks for this work.

She got married for the third time in early December 2012 to Ned Rocknroll. The intimate ceremony took place in the Big Apple of New York, in the presence of his two children and a very small number of family and friends, among whom was his co-star in "Titanic", Leonardo DiCaprio, who accompanied until the altar to Winslet.

Her son Bear Blaze Winslet was born in Sussex County, England, on December 7, 2013.
