Biography of Calista Flockhart
Calista Flockhart was born on November 11, 1964 in Freeport, Illinois.
She is the daughter of Kay Calista, a teacher, and Ronald Flockhart, an executive at Kraft Foods. She had an older brother, Gary. Her mother reversed her names and called her Calista Kay.
She lived in Minnesota, New York and New Jersey among other places due to her father's job.
She attended Shawnee High School in Medford Township, New Jersey. After her graduation in 1983, she entered Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
In 1989, she worked as an aerobics teacher and as a waitress. In that year she debuted in a New York theater.
In 1991, she made her first television appearance on the HBO series "Families in Crisis." She crossed over to Broadway with "The Glass Menagerie," which brought her the Theater World Award and the Clarence Derwent Award for Best New Talent. She later participated in The Loop, The Birdcage and Sophistry.
She owes her worldwide fame to her role as Ally McBeal (1997), for which she received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. In 1998, People magazine chose her as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.
On the big screen, she participated in Drunks, Telling Lies In America and The Birdcage (La Jaula de las Locas), alongside Robin Williams. In 1999, she filmed in Italy A Midsummer Night's Dream, based on the play by William Shakespeare, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Kevin Kline and Rupert Everett.
During her career, she received a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and three Emmy Award nominations.
She married actor Harrison Ford on June 15, 2010, with whom she had lived since 2004. She was the mother of Liam, whom she adopted on January 1, 2001.
