Biography of Joey King
Joey King was born on July 30, 1999 in Los Angeles, California.
She is the daughter of Jamie and Terry King. She has two older sisters, Kelli and Hunter King, who are also actresses. One of her grandmothers was also a theater actress.
She grew up in a Jewish family.
Her father was a wrestling champion and worked in the movies as an adviser to actor Sylvester Stallone.
As a very young girl she began auditioning for commercials and at the age of four, she appeared in Life Cereal, broadcast on national television. She continued to work as a child model starring over a hundred commercials over the next two years.
In 2006, at the age of seven, she made her acting debut with a two-episode small role on Disney's popular sitcom The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, the year in which she also appeared in an episode of the series Malcolm in the Middle.
She has in 2007 in a small uncredited role in the film Reign Over Me and in 2008, a voice in the animated film Horton Hears a Who!, after which she worked in the horror film Quarantine (2008). She once again voiced another animated film, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), and took part in the television movie Anatomy of Hope that same year.
In 2010, she landed her first leading role in the movie Ramona and Beezus. In this film she played Ramona Quimby, the younger sister of Beezus Quimby, played by Selena Gomez. Additionally, she contributed to the original soundtrack by singing the song Ramona Blue. The film turned out to be a critical and commercial success.
She later acted in big budget productions like Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011) and Battle: Los Angeles (2012). She had a small role in the movie The Dark Knight Rises (2012).
In 2013, she appeared in the adventure film Oz the Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco, and in the same year, she features two leading roles, the first being Christine Perron in the horror film The Conjuring, and the second as Emily Cale, in White House Down.
In 2014, she participated in the comedy Wish I Was Here, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, being received with critical acclaim, and in The Sound and the Fury, directed by and starring James Franco.
Over the next several years, Joey worked on such films as Stonewall (2015), Borealis (2015), Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), Going in Style (2017), Wish Upon (2017), and Smartas (2017).
She subsequently acts in Bullet Train, an action thriller based on the novel Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka, participating in an ensemble cast along with Brad Pitt.
During her first years as an actress, she managed to play small roles in series such as Entourage (2007) or Jericho (2006–2007). In 2011, Joey appeared in the romantic comedy series Bent in the lead role of Charlie.
She had many other roles in television series such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2007-2008), New Girl (2012), or The Haunting Hour (2013-2014).
In 2014, she landed the recurring role of Greta Grimly on the prestigious series Fargo, and in 2016, she was the lead, Maddisyn Crawford, on Tween Fest. The series was extremely successful and was nominated for an Emmy Award.
She later works on The Act, it is a series that premiered on March 20, 2019, on Hulu.
Her fame is mainly due to the main role of Elle Evans, in the Netflix movies, The Kissing Booth, in 2018 and its two sequels in 2020 and 2021, based on the novels written by Beth Reekles.
Joey King was related to Jacob Elordi, her co-star in the film The Kissing Booth. Joey and Jacob broke up in late 2018.
She later is a partner of producer and director Steven Piet. They met while working together on the miniseries The Act in 2019.
