Kate Rooney Mara was born on February 27, 1983 in Bedford, Westchester County, New York. She is an American actress.

Kate is the great-granddaughter of Timothy Mara, who was the founder of the popular New York Giants football team, and Art Rooney, founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers. She is the second of four siblings: two brothers, one named Dan, and her younger sister, also an actress, Rooney Mara. She has stated that she comes from a "great" family. Her father has 10 siblings and in total, she has 40 cousins. She was the girlfriend of actor Max Minghella.

Kate Mara began her acting career in her hometown of Bedford, New York. He made his television debut in the series Law & Order in an episode of 1997 and moved when he made her first film, Random Hearts, of 1999. Her most outstanding performances include, among other works, Brokeback Mountain, awarded by the Academy of Arts and United States Film Sciences, playing the daughter of Heath Ledger's character, and the Fox 24 television series, playing systems analyst Shari Rothenberg. Since then he has appeared in the films Urban Legends: Bloody Mary (2005), We Are Marshall (2006), Shooter, alongside Mark Wahlberg (2007), and Transsiberian, with Eduardo Noriega (2008).

Mara joined the cast of the HBO series Entourage in the sixth season and co-starred in The Open Road (2009), alongside Justin Timberlake.

She played a federal agent in the 2010 film Iron Man 2. She had already ventured into the theme of superheroes in 2006, when she starred with Tim Allen in the film Zoom.

In the year 2010 she starred in the film titled Happythankyoumoreplease, alongside Josh Radnor (who in addition to acting is the director of the film). She also participated in the first season of the FX series American Horror Story. Later, she participated in the 2015 film Fantastic 4 and in the television series House of Cards.

In late 2015, Mara began dating >actor Jamie Bell and in January 2017, the couple became engaged.6 On July 17, 2017, the couple announced that they had married. As a result, she became stepmother to the son Bell had with Evan Rachel Wood. In May 2019, the couple welcomed their first daughter together.
