Brie Larson, actually Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers was born October 1, 1989 in Sacramento, California. She is an American actress, singer and filmmaker.
Larson is best known for her role in the television series States of Tara. She has received numerous film awards for her acting performance in the film drama space, including an Academy Award ("Oscar"), a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and a BAFTA Award.
In 2017, she starred in her first big-budget film, the adventure film Kong: Skull Island. Since 2019 she has played the role of Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; starting in the Captain Marvel movie of the same name.
Brie Larson has a younger sister named Mimsy. Brie decided to be an actress at the age of seven and was one of the youngest students at the American Conservatory Theater. She moved to Los Angeles shortly before her ninth birthday in 1998 and still lives there today.
Larson's first engagement was in sketches on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Shortly thereafter, she was cast in the American television series Schimmel for the role of Samantha, which was announced on Fox television but never aired.
Three weeks later, Larson auditioned for The WB for a new series, working title Raising Dad, and landed the role of Emily, the youngest daughter of the Bob Saget character. The series aired between 2001 and 2002, but was canceled mid-air. Larson herself received a first Young Artist Award nomination for Best Series Lead Actress. She also had a role in the never-aired pilot for the ABC series Hope & Faith, but along with several other cast members, was not cast on the series.
In 2003, Larson starred in the role of Courtney Enders in the Disney film Right on Track. She had a small role in 13 going on 30 and also - together with Logan Lerman and Cody Linley, with whom she is also privately good friends - in the young adult film adaptation of Owls (2006).
In 2008, she had roles in the short film The Babysitter, in an episode of Ghost Whisperer and in the film Tanner Hall. Larson has also portrayed the roles of Kate Gregson in the award-winning States of Tara and Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
She starred as Molly in the 2012 comedy 21 Jump Street and in 2013 Destin Cretton's feature film Short Term 12, a slightly modified remake of his 2008 award-winning short film of the same name.
For her performance in the film Room, Larson won the Golden Globe Award: Best Actress – Drama category at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards. She also received the Oscar for Best Actress for this performance.
At Comic-Con 2016 it was announced that Larson would embody the eponymous main character in the 2019 film adaptation of Captain Marvel, which was set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In all, she signed a seven-movie deal with Marvel.
On June 29, 2016, it was announced that Larson was one of 683 personalities invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Larson has repeatedly spoken out in public for the rights of women and minorities in recent years. In the USA in particular, it has since been subjected to sometimes violent attacks from the alt-right.
In October 2004 she released her first single She Said from her debut album on her website. On April 4, 2005, the video was featured on MTV's TRL show and reached #31 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Larson released another single called Life After You on June 27, 2005.
Brie Larson co-wrote and recorded the song Coming Around for the Owls soundtrack.
On March 1, 2006, Larson sang a number of new songs at the Viper Room in Los Angeles, including Dear Universe, Powershift, Stilts and the Titanic and Superstition.
With the band Metric she recorded Black Sheep for the film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and started her own indie record label Big Brass Stacks in 2010.
