Jessica Ann Simpson was born on July 10, 1980 in Abilene, Texas. She is an American pop singer and actress. She is Ashlee Simpson's older sister.

Jessica Simpson's father, who is also her manager, was originally a Baptist minister, and Jessica began singing in his congregation's church choir. At age 12, she unsuccessfully took part in an audition for the Mickey Mouse Club.

Simpson's first singleI Wanna Love You Forever, released in the fall of 1999, reached number three on the US Billboard chart, and the accompanying debut album Sweet Kisses reached number 25 on the US album chart and was certified double platinum. In the spring of 2001 followed the equally successful album Irresistible, from which the single of the same name and A Little Bit were released. Jessica Simpson was initially not able to record any major successes outside of the USA.

In 2003, Jessica Simpson and her then-husband, Nick Lachey (singer of boy band 98 Degrees), starred on MTV's reality show Newlyweds. In September of that year, she released her third album, In This Skin, which peaked at number two on the album charts.

In 2005, Simpson continued to work on her acting career. She played the role of Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard, a remake of the 1970s television series of the same name.

Simpson released the album A Public Affair in August 2006. The sales figures were only weak internationally and the reviews were sometimes very negative.

Simpson then worked on the making of her debut country album, Do You Know, which was released in the US in fall 2008.

From 2002 to 2005, Simpson was married to Nick Lachey, who, after their separation, reappraised the marriage in his solo album What's Left of Me. The song won him the 2006 Teen Choice Award for Best Love Song.

Simpson dated musician John Mayer in 2006-2007, and she dated Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo from November 2007 to July 2009.

She has been in a relationship with ex-footballer Eric Johnson since May 2010. The two got engaged in November 2010. In October 2011 it was announced that Simpson was pregnant. On May 1, 2012, she gave birth to a daughter. In June 2013, she gave birth to a boy. Simpson has been married to Eric Johnson since July 5, 2014. The wedding took place on a ranch in California. On March 19, 2019, she gave birth to another girl.

She currently resides in Beverly Hills.

Her autobiography Open Book was published in 2020. In it, as well as in 2021, Simpson stated that he had an alcohol and pill addiction until 2017 because of psychological problems that were triggered by childhood abuse.
