Chloë Grace Moretz
Biography of Chloë Grace Moretz
Chloë Grace Moretz was born on February 10, 1997 in Atlanta, Georgia. She is an American actress and model, best known for the films Hugo Cabret, Kick-Ass and Let Me In.
Chloë Grace Moretz was born the daughter of a cosmetic surgeon and a nurse and grew up with four older brothers in Cartersville, Georgia. When her brother Trevor was accepted into drama school in New York City in 2001, she followed him there with her mother. Her brother's acting classes quickly piqued her interest, so she helped him practice lines and he taught her some acting techniques. When Moretz realized how much she liked it, the family decided to go to some auditions to see if they could use their skills professionally. Moretz was signed to a children's agency in New York as a model and some television commercials followed.
In 2003 the family moved to California, where the father had meanwhile settled in Los Angeles. In 2004, Moretz had her first small role on the television series The Guardian. There she portrayed the girl "Violett" in two episodes and had her first film role as "Molly" in Heart of the Beholder in 2005.
Her next big role was as Chelsea Lutz in Amityville Horror. She also starred in an episode of the sitcom My Name Is Earl. Moretz voiced the character "Furi" on an episode of Kuzco's Royal Class.
In 2006 she starred in the film Wicked Little Things in the role of Emma Tunny. In the series My Friends Tigger and the Pooh she lent her voice to the character "Darby". Moretz received one of six Young Artist Award nominations for the role.
In 2009, Moretz starred alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Nicolas Cage as "Mindy Macready" aka "Hit Girl" in the superhero satire Kick-Ass. The film, released in 2010, received mostly positive reviews, in which Moretz's acting was particularly praised. The critic Peter Travers from Rolling Stone judged that Moretz dominated the film and that her sensational performance would be talked about for years to come. Other critics complained that the film fetishized the eleven-year-old killer and declared "Hit-Girl" an honorable heroine despite her bloody acts of violence. In October 2010, Moretz received the 2010 Scream Award in the Breakout Performance – Female category for her role in Kick-Ass.
In 2011, she co-starred in Martin Scorsese's 3D film Hugo Cabret, for which she won Best Actress in a Feature Film at the 2012 Young Artist Awards. Moretz also starred as Carolyn Stoddard in Tim Burton's remake of Dark Shadows in 2011.
In March 2012 she was cast in the role of "Carrie" in the remake of the film of the same name. In 2012, she filmed Kick-Ass 2, which starred her as a "hit girl" again. She starred opposite Keira Knightley in the comedy drama Laggies, which premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. That same year, she starred in the film The Equalizer alongside Denzel Washington.
She also starred in New York's Public Theater in 2014 in the play The Library, an adaptation of Dave Cullen's book Columbine about the Littleton school shooting, directed by Steven Soderbergh.
In 2015 she appeared in the mystery thriller Dark Placesin the role of Diondra together with Charlize Theron. She starred in The Fifth Wave, Neighbors 2 and the 2016 drama film Brain On Fire. In April 2019, it was announced that she had landed a starring role in the film Tom & Jerry, which will hit theaters in 2021.
