Olivia Isabel Rodrigo was born on February 20, 2003 in Temecula, California. She is an American actress and singer and a 3-time Grammy winner of the year 2022.
Born in Temecula, California, Olivia Rodrigo grew up in the neighboring town of Murrieta, where she attended Dorothy McElhinney Middle School. Later her parents decided to homeschool her. Her father is Filipino-American while her mother is of Irish and German descent. She took piano lessons at the age of seven and sang at talent shows and supermarket openings as a child. According to her record company Interscope, she said she started writing lyrics when she was 12.
She gained her first acting experience in school theater productions at the Lisa J. Mails Elementary School and the Dorothy McElhinney Middle School. She later moved to Los Angeles after landing a role on the series Bizaardvark.
Rodrigo made his television debut in an Old Navy-branded commercial. Shortly thereafter, she played the lead role of Grace Thomas in the film An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success.
In 2016 she finally got the role of Paige Olvera in Bizaardvark, She embodied this role for three seasons. In February 2019, she landed the lead role of Nini Salazar-Roberts on the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, which premiered on the streaming provider in November. For this series, Rodrigo wrote the song All I Want and on April 23, 2020, All I Want was certified Gold for over 500,000 units sold in the United States.
Rodrigo has a record deal with Geffen Records and a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing. In several interviews she has mentioned that her biggest musical inspirations are Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrahms. Her debut single Drivers License was released on January 8, 2021. During its release week, the song broke multiple records on Spotify for most streams by a non-Christmas song at over 17 million streams in one day.
Rodrigo's debut album Sour was released on May 21, 2021. On August 4, 2021, it was announced that Olivia Rodrigo had signed a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing. This is her first contract with a music publisher.
