Johanna Selhorst "Josie" Maran was born on May 8, 1978 in Menlo Park, California. She is an American model who also works as an actress. But she is best known for her photos for various magazines, such as Sports Illustrated, or for her participation in the advertising campaign for the cosmetics company Maybelline.

Her father has Polish-Russian roots, her mother's ancestors came from Holland, France and Germany. Her modeling career began at the age of twelve when a scout spotted her in a restaurant. After completing her schooling at Castilleja School, she returned to her modeling career. Due to her - for a model - small height of 170 cm, Maran works almost exclusively in the print area. Maran has had an unusually large appendix scar since childhood, but this is retouched in most of the photographs.

On June 2, 2006, Maran gave birth to their first child, Rumi Joon, in Los Angeles. Her daughter's father is her partner Ali Alborzi. Their second daughter was born on July 1, 2012.

In September 2007, the model launched her own line of cosmetics in the US.
