Biography of Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh was born on January 3, 1996 in Oxford, UK.

She is the daughter of Clinton Pugh, a restaurateur, and his wife Deborah, a dancer and dance teacher. She has three siblings: actor and musician Toby Sebastian, and actresses Arabella Gibbins and Rafaela Pugh.

As a child, she suffered from tracheomalacia (a condition in which the cartilage that keeps the airways open), which led to frequent hospitalizations. When she was three years old, her family settled in Andalusia, Spain, hoping that the warmer climate would improve her health. They returned to Oxford three years later.

She attended Wychwood School and St Edward's School in her home town.

She made her professional debut in 2014 in the film The Falling.

In 2016, she starred in the independent drama Lady Macbeth, for which she won a British Independent Film Award. In the same year she appeared in the first season of the ITV detective series Marcella.

During 2018, she played the role of Cordelia in the television film King Lear, alongside Anthony Hopkins. She starred in the film Outlaw King with Chris Pine, and played a lead role in the miniseries The Little Drummer Girl, for which she was nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star Award that same year.

Her international recognition came in 2019 with her performances as the professional wrestler Paige, in the biopic Fighting with My Family, as Dani Ardor in the horror film Midsommar and as Amy March in the period drama Little Women, alongside Meryl Streep. For this performance she was nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2021, she was Yelena Belova in the superhero movie Black Widow, produced by Marvel Studios. In the same year she also worked on the Disney+ miniseries Hawkeye.
