Maren Morris
Biography of Maren Morris
Maren Larae Morris was born on April 10, 1990 in Dallas, Texas. She is an American country music singer.
Maren Morris not only started making music at a very early age, she made recordings at a young age and completed three albums by 2011, mostly with songs she had written herself. The following year she went to Nashville, where she first found a job as a songwriter. Among other things, she was involved in songs by Tim McGraw (Last Turn Home) and Kelly Clarkson (Second Wind).
Her own music career initially only consisted of performances in the United States. This changed with the song My Church, which she recorded and released digitally in 2015. With that she reached over 2.5 million streaming views and the attention of the big labels. She signed to Sony Music and released an EP bearing her name that same year. Both the EP and the song My Church made it into the respective charts and stayed there for several months. The song peaked at number 5 on the country charts, sold over a million copies and was certified platinum.
In mid-2016, the first album followed on a major label entitled Hero. This put Morris at number 1 on the country charts and she reached number 5 on the official album charts. She was then awarded Best Newcomer at the CMA Awards. She was also nominated for Best Newcomer and in three country categories at the Grammy Awards. Ultimately, she received the award for Best Country Solo Performance.
Together with the German-Russian DJ Zedd, she released the song The Middle in January 2018, which stylistically moves between electronic dance and country music.
In March 2019, she released her second studio album Girl, which received 24 million streams in its first week, breaking the record for the most streamed country studio album by a woman in a week. The first single of the same name was released in January 2019.
In 2020, Morris was named Country Singer of the Year at the American Music Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards. The following year, she accepted the same award again at the ACM Awards, in addition to receiving the song of the year award for The Bones. She also won Female Singer and Song and Singles of the Year awards at the CMA Awards, also for The Bones.
Morris has been married to country singer Ryan Hurd since March 2018. On March 23, 2020, their first child, a son, was born.
