Biography of Catherine Zeta Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones was born on September 25, 1969 in Swansea, Wales, Ireland, into a humble family.

She is the daughter of David Jones, a candy maker, and Patricia Fair, a seamstress. She had two brothers.

At age five, she was sent to the Hazel Johnson School of Dance and at eleven, she became a British Tap Dance Champion.

She was educated at Dumbarton House School, and then she attended the Arts Educational Schools in Chiswick, London, for a three-year course in musical theatre.

At the age of fifteen she joined a theater company that passed through her town performing musicals. In London she triumphed in the musical 42nd Street, a play in which she was hired as an understudy, but in which she would star for two years.

She went on to television playing the role of Marietta in the series The Darling Buds of May, an adaptation of a novel by H.E. Bates.

Before leaving England for Hollywood, she worked alongside Ewan McGregor on Blue Juice and the television adaptation of Thomas Hardy's The Return of Native. She also participated in Christopher Columbus, The discovery and in Newborn and already crowned.

In the United States, she dedicated herself to working on television series, such as the Golden Globe winner Catherine the Great, but it was in her role for the mini-series Titanic, where she would be discovered by Steven Spielberg who, as executive producer, would offer her the role of Elena in The Mask of Zorro sharing the leading role with Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins. Her next work is a haunted house horror thriller The Haunting, opposite Liam Neesom and directed by Jan de Bont.

In 1999, she co-starred in two hits, Entrapment, with Sean Connery, and in 2000, she starred in Steven Soderbergh's Traffic. In 2001, she worked alongside Julia Roberts in the comedy America's Sweethearts.

In 2003, she received an Oscarfor Best Supporting Actress for her role in Chicago and starred opposite George Clooney in Intolerable Cruelty directed by the Coen Brothers. In 2004 she made Steven Spielberg's The Terminal with Tom Hanks and Ocean's Twelve.

In 2005, she appeared in The Legend of Zorro again alongside Spanish actor Antonio Banderas. In 2007 she premiered No Reservations, a remake of the German Delicious Martha, and The Last Great Wizard. In 2009 she premiered The Rebound (My second time in Latin America).

In December 2009, she made her Broadway debut, sharing the bill with Angela Lansbury in the revival of the musical A Little Night Music. She received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

In 2012, she returned to the big screen with Playing for Keeps, directed by Gabriele Muccino, Lay the Favorite, directed by Stephen Frears, and with the adaptation of the musical Rock of Ages. In 2013, she presented the films Broken City, Side Effects and RED 2.

In 2016, she starred in the comedy Dad's Army, and the drama The Godmother, based on the life of Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco.

On September 8, 1998, in Deauville, Normandy, France, specifically during the American Film Festival, she met fellow actor Michael Douglas, whom she married on November 18, 2000 and who was the father of her son, Dylan Michael. In April 2003 Catherine gave birth to a girl, Carys Zeta.

On April 14, 2011, it was revealed that after having spent a very stressful year due to her husband's serious illness, she had voluntarily admitted herself to a psychiatric clinic to treat her bipolar disorder. On August 4, 2013, her separation from Michael is announced. On January 2, 2014 they announced their reconciliation.
