Katherine "Kate" Ann Moss was born on January 16, 1974 in Croydon, London. She is a British model.

Moss is the daughter of a boutique owner and an airline employee. Her parents divorced when she was 13. Moss has a younger brother, a half sister and a half brother. She attended Ridgeway Primary School and later Riddlesdown High School. In sports she was very good, in other subjects she mostly got bad grades.

In 1988, the then 14-year-old was discovered by Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm Model Management agency, at JFK Airport in New York City. In the same year, Moss signed an advertising contract with the fashion label Calvin Klein and advertised the brand's underwear primarily in print media and on posters in North America. Moss dated actor Johnny Depp from 1994 to 1998.

Moss testified in court 24 years after the split in a lawsuit between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard in May 2022, after Heard claimed that Moss was pushed down the stairs by Depp. Kate Moss denied these allegations.

Moss has a daughter, Lila Grace, with publisher Jefferson Hack, who was born in September 2002. In 2005 she became engaged to Pete Doherty (* 1979), the singer of Babyshambles, from whom she separated again in the summer of 2007. In 2011, she married Jamie Hince, guitarist for The Kills.
