Cameron Michelle Diaz was born on August 30, 1972 in San Diego, California. She is an American former actress, voice actress, and model.

Cameron Diaz' father is from Cuba, on her mother's side she has German, English and Native American ancestors. She was in a class with Snoop Dogg in high school. She left home at the age of 16 and spent the next five years working as a model in various countries, including Japan, Australia, Mexico and France.

At the age of 21 she returned to California, initially continued to work as a model, including in a BDSM video and auditioned for the female lead in The Mask (1994). The cinema success brought her further roles in films such as FeelingMinnesota or My Best Friend's Wedding.

Diaz's big break came in 1998 with the comedy There's Something About Mary, which earned her first Golden Globe nomination. Diaz then turned to independent film. Her roles in the films Being John Malkovich and Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday brought her positive reviews. In 1999, she earned her second Golden Globe nomination for Being John Malkovich.

In 2000, Diaz appeared in the remake Charlie's Angels. The film was nominated for seven Golden Raspberries.

In 2001 she starred in Vanilla Sky alongside Tom Cruise and Penélope Cruz and a year later in the ten Oscar-nominated film Gangs of New York by director Martin Scorsese. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for both films. In 2004, she starred in the film In Her Shoes as Maggie opposite Shirley MacLaine and Toni Collette.

Following another critical acclaim, Diaz landed a role in the film The Holiday alongside Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black. In her next film, Diaz starred opposite Ashton Kutcher in Love Vegas; the film received poor reviews, Diaz and Kutcher were each nominated for a Golden Raspberry.

In 2009, Diaz played the mother of a child with leukemia in the novel adaptation of My Sister's Keeper. A year later, she starred in the action comedy Knight and Day alongside Tom Cruise. This was followed by appearances mainly in film comedies. In 2014, she appeared in Annie, her last acting appearance to date. Her work includes 56 film and television productions.

On March 12, 2018, it was announced by close friend Selma Blair that Diaz had retired from acting. She is "done" with Hollywood and happy as a housewife.

Diaz was in a relationship with producer Carlos de la Torre from 1990 to 1995. She was in a relationship with Matt Dillon from 1996 to 1998 and with actor and musician Jared Leto from 1999 to 2003. From 2003 to January 2007, Diaz lived with Justin Timberlake. She and baseball player Alex Rodriguez dated from July 2010 to September 2011.

On January 5, 2015, in Los Angeles, she married musician Benji Madden, guitarist for the band Good Charlotte, to whom she had been engaged since 2014. In December 2019, Madden and Diaz welcomed a daughter.
