Biography of Isla Fisher

Isla Ayala Lang Fisher was born on 3 February 1976 in Muscat, Oman. She is an Australian actress and author of Scottish descent.

Fisher was born in Muscat, the capital of Oman, where her father worked as a banker for the United Nations. The first name Isla is derived from Islay, the name of the southernmost island in the Scottish Inner Hebrides archipelago (Fisher's parents are both Scottish). At the age of nine months she moved to Australia with her family, where she grew up with two younger and two older brothers.

She made her Australian television debut in 1993 with the role of Robyn Devereaux on the short-lived television series Paradise Beach. Her breakthrough role was as Shannon Reed on the 1988 soap opera Home and Away, in which she starred from 1994-1997. During this time she wrote two books, Seduced by Fame and Bewitched.

In 2002 she took on the role of Mary Jane in the feature film Scooby-Doo. She had a major role in 2005's The Wedding Crashers, which earned her the title of Best Newcomer at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards.

In 2006, Fisher starred in the relationship drama Londonalongside Jessica Biel, Chris Evans and Jason Statham. In 2008, Isla Fisher played Rebecca Bloomwood in the film adaptation of Sophie Kinsella's book Confessions of a Shopaholic. Also in 2008, she took on the lead role of April Hoffman in the film comedy Definitely, Maybe Not alongside Ryan Reynolds.

In 2013, she played escape artist Henley Reeves in Now You See Me, opposite Dave Franco, Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson.

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars annually.

Fisher has been married to Sacha Baron Cohen since March 20, 2010. She converted to Judaism in order to hold a Jewish wedding. Their first daughter was born on October 17, 2007, and their second daughter was born in the summer of 2010. In March 2015 their third child, a son, was born.
