Biography of Shakira
Shakira was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, Colombia.
She is the only daughter of William Mebarak, an American of Lebanese origin who emigrated to Colombia at the age of five, and Nidia del Carmen Ripoll Torrado, a Colombian of Catalan descent. She has eight older step-siblings from her father's previous marriage.
In 1991 Shakira debuted with the album, Magia, published only in Colombia and thanks to this work she was chosen to represent her country at the OTI Festival in Spain, although she could not participate in the contest because she was not old enough.
In 1993 Shakira released Peligro, her second album, and she appeared as an actress in a teleseries called El Oasis, on Caracol Television. Her third album, Pies Descalzos (1996), sold over four million copies worldwide.
In 2000 the Colombian government named Shakira Goodwill Ambassador. A year later, she released Laundry Service (2001), which sold more than ten million copies worldwide.
Shakira published two LPs in 2005: one in Spanish, Oral fixation vol.1, and another in English, Ora lfixation vol.2. Oral Fixation Vol. 1 was released in June 2005.
On April 27 of that same year, Shakira won six Latin Billboard awards and was chosen to sing her song Hips Dont Lie at the final ceremony of the FIFA World Cup, Germany 2006.
In 2007, she collaborated with her friend Alejandro Sanz, on the album El tren de los moments in the song Te lo agradezco, pero no, and in the same year, in a song and the music video titled Beautiful Liar with the American singer Beyoncé, corresponding to her album "BDay".
On October 12, 2009, She Wolf released their sixth studio album.
During the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Shakira became the interpreter of the official song of the event, called Waka Waka (This Time For Africa), which uses fragments of an African military song.
Sale el sol, her new album, was presented in September 2010 as well as the first single Loca. On January 4, 2011, "Sale el sol" was officially released, the second single from the album.
Her self-titled studio album (Shakira) was released on March 25, 2014. On July 13, 2014, she performed La LaLa with Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown at the closing ceremony at the Maracanã Stadium of the FIFA World Cup 2014.
She began recording her ninth studio album in early 2016, she collaborated with Colombian singer Carlos Vives on the song La Bicicleta.
In March 2017 she released the single Deja Vu with Prince Royce, later Me Enamoré appeared as the second official single and Perro Fiel as the third single from her album El Dorado, which was finally presented on May 26, 2017.
In January 2018 she won her third Grammy Awards for the album El Dorado in the category of Best Latin Pop Album.
In November 2011 she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The singer gave birth in a clinic in Barcelona at 9:36 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, accompanied by the child's father, Gerard Piqué.
On January 30, 2014, Shakira and Gerard Piqué became parents again by giving birth to her second child at the Teknon Clinic in Barcelona.
