Jennifer Love Hewitt was born on February 21, 1979 in Waco, Texas. She is an American actress and singer.

Hewitt was her parents' second child and has one brother. Her parents separated when Hewitt was six months old; the children grew up with their mother in the small Texas town of Killeen.

After Hewitt gained her first stage experience as a child with a Texan show troupe, talent scouts advised the now 10-year-old to move to Los Angeles because of the better career opportunities.

Hewitt followed the advice and went to California with her mother while her brother stayed in Texas to graduate from high school. Hewitt quickly began receiving offers for commercials and worked on the Disney Channel children's show Kids Incorporated from 1989-1991. Various roles in less successful television productions followed, all still as Love Hewitt. In 1993, now under her full name, she landed her first feature film role - playing Margaret in Sister Act 2.

Her real breakthrough came as Sarah Reeves in the television series Party of Five, in which she acted from 1995 to 1999. In 1997, Hewitt had another big screen hit with the film I Know What You Did Last Summer.

In 2001, she starred alongside Sigourney Weaver, Gene Hackman and Jason Lee in the marriage swindler comedy Heartbreakers. In 2002, she lent her voice as Madellaine in Walt Disney Studios' 20th direct-to-video production, The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2. From 2005 to 2010, she starred as the medium Melinda Gordon in the fantasy mystery television series Ghost Whisperer, which she also co-produced.

In 2010, she starred in the TV movie The Client List, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination in 2011.

In addition to her work as an actress, Hewitt is also a singer. Her book The Day I Shot Cupid was published in March 2010.

From 2001 to 2002 she was in a relationship with actor and singer Patrick Wilson. She was engaged to Ross McCall from November 2007 to late 2008.

From 2009 to March 2010 she had a liaison with Jamie Kennedy, her fellow actor from Ghost Whisperer.

From July 2010 to early May 2011, she dated actor, director and screenwriter Alex Beh. In early June 2013, it was announced that she was engaged to fellow actor Brian Hallisay from The Client List after 15 months. In November 2013, the two became parents to a girl, and their son was born in June 2015. On September 9, 2021, they had another child.
