Dove Cameron (Chloe Celeste Hosterman) was born on January 15, 1996 in Seattle, Washington. She is an American actress and singer.

Her birth name is Chloe, but her father called her Dove from a very young age. After his death, she decided to adopt Dove as her official name. At the age of eight she began acting in the city theater. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 14 to attend professional acting school. She went to Burbank High School. Cameron made her acting debut in two episodes of the television series Shameless. She then guest-starred on The Mentalist and Malibu Country.

She speaks some French due to her French roots. She also has Russian, Slovak, and Hungarian ancestry.

Cameron's breakthrough came with the dual lead roles of twins Liv Rooney and Maddie Rooney on the Disney Channel youth series Livand Maddie, which aired on the channel from July 2013 to March 2017. In January 2014, she portrayed the role of Kayla Morgan in the Disney Channel Cloud 9 opposite Luke Benward.

In 2015, Cameron starred as Mal, Maleficent's daughter, in the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants. She also embodies the same role in the 2017 sequel Descendants 2 and also in 2019 in Descendants 3. She also starred in Secret Agency - Barely Lethal- Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls.

In December 2016, she was in the NBC live musical Hairspray Live! as Amber from Tussle and in July 2017 she appeared in the musical Mamma Mia! in the role of Sophie on the Hollywood Bowl open-air stage. In the fifth season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. she embodied Ruby Hale. In the parodic musical television series Schmigadoon! she played one of the main roles.

Cameron is also active as a singer. Her two songs Count Me In and Better in Stereo, the latter also being the theme song of the series Liv and Maddie, each reached number one on Billboard's Kid Digital Songs.

She recorded the song Rotten to the Core and the ballad If Only with fellow Descendants actors Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart & Sofia Carson. Both songs debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.

In October 2015, she formed a band called The Girl and the Dreamcatcher with her then-boyfriend Ryan McCartan. This brought out their first EP in mid-July 2016, after individual songs and music videos had already been released beforehand. With the single Boyfriendreleased in February 2022, she achieved international chart success.

In April 2018, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series for Liv and Maddie.

Since August 2013 she was in a relationship with her fellow actor Ryan McCartan from Liv and Maddie. The couple announced their engagement on April 14, 2016, but split in October of the same year. Between 2016 and 2020 she was in a relationship with Scottish actor Thomas Doherty, whom she met on the set of Descendants 2.
