Biography of Julia Stiles
Julia O'Hara Stiles was born on March 28, 1981 in New York City, New York. She is an American theater and film actress.
She began her career in theater with roles in smaller productions, before moving on to leading roles in plays by playwrights such as William Shakespeare and David Mamet, and has been a successful film actress for the past 20 years.
Julia Stiles was born the eldest of three children to John O'Hara, a teacher and businessman, and Judith Stiles, a potter. Her family is of Irish-English-Italian descent. She attended a Quaker school in Manhattan and studied English at Columbia University in New York. In May 2005 she completed her studies after five years, which she had interrupted several times for various film projects.
At the age of 15, after a few guest roles that she had gotten from 1993, Julia Stiles made her debut in a cinema production in the film I love you, I love you not with Claire Danes, Jude Law and James Van Der Beek. She was also seen in Familiar Enemy (1997) as the daughter of Tom O'Meara (Harrison Ford) and in M. Night Shyamalan's Wide Awake (1998). Her first starring role came in 1998's Wicked. However, the film did not make it to US cinemas.
Julia Stiles' breakthrough role as Katarina Stratford opposite Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), an adaptation of William Shakespeare's play The Taming of the Shrew, made her a breakthrough actress. Stiles appeared more frequently in Shakespearean films; she played Ophelia in Hamlet with Ethan Hawke in 2000, after 10 Things I Hate About You, and Desdemona in 2001 to Mekhi Phifer's portrayal of Othello in a modern version of the material: O.
She received another MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss and Best for the dance drama Save the Last Dance (2001). In David Mamet's State and Main (2000) she played a young girl who seduces an actor while filming in a small town. In 2001, she portrayed the antagonist of Stockard Channing in Business of Strangers.
In the 2002 film The Bourne Identity, Stiles debuted the role of CIA agent Nicky Parsons, who she also starred in three sequels to the Bourne film series, starring Matt Damon, The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and Jason Bourne (2016) played.
In 2003, she took on leading roles in A Guy Thing and Carolinaand that same year as a student in Mona Lisa Smile, opposite Julia Roberts as her art professor, who tries to convince her to become a lawyer rather than a wife and mother will. In 2004 she played the leading role in the comedy film The Prince & Me, in which her character falls in love with a prince.
She also starred as Lumen Pierce in the fifth season of Showtime's TV series Dexterin 2010. Her role as a murder witness who seeks revenge on her former tormentors earned her a 2011 Golden Globe nomination. In March 2012 she was cast in the US remake of the Indian thriller Midnight Project. She took on the role of journalist Elizabeth in Lorene Scafaria's film Hustlers in 2019.
Other film and television roles followed; her work includes more than 50 productions.
Stiles has beenmarriedto Preston Cook since September 2017. Their son was born in October 2017.
