Biography of Amy Lee

Amy Lee was born on December 13, 1981 in Riverside, California. Sheis an American singer, pianist and songwriter. She is a member of the American rock group Evanescence. Her voice is mezzo-soprano.

Amy Lee grew up in a very musical family. Her father, John Lee, was a member of a cover band known in Riverside and Orange County called The Hard Luck Band. Because Amy Lee's father also worked in radio, the family had to move often, for example to Kansas City, Missouri and West Palm Beach, Florida. When Lee was six years old, her younger sister died, to whom she later dedicated two of her songs, Hello (album Fallen) and Like You (album The Open Door).

In Arkansas, Amy Lee first lived with her parents and three siblings in Maumelle, then in Little Rock, the US state capital. There, at the age of 13, she met 14-year-old Ben Moody at a summer camp, with whom she formed the band Evanescence.

After marrying Josh Hartzler on May 6, 2007, she took his last name.

In July 2014 she gave birth to her son with Josh Hartzler.

In August 2014 she released her first solo album Aftermath for the film War Story. She worked with cellist Dave Eggar.

With Evanescence, Lee made her breakthrough as a singer. The band's debut album was released in March 2003. In 2004 the band won two Grammy Awards. Also in 2004, Lee and her then-boyfriend Shaun Morgan of Seether decided to re-record Seether's song Broken. Originally she should have sung on the original version, which didn't happen due to a misunderstanding. After a year and a half tour with Evanescence, Lee initially disappeared from the public eye.

She spent 2005 working on her new album The Open Door. At the end of the summer of 2005, the two-year relationship with Shaun Morgan broke up. In November 2005, her bandmate Terry Balsamo, Lee's songwriting partner, suffered a stroke.

On September 29, 2006 the Evanescence album The Open Door was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A tour of the USA, Canada and Europe followed.

The third studio album Evanescence was released on October 7, 2011.

On November 10, 2017 the fourth studio album "Synthesis" was released.
