Blake Ellender Lively was born on August 25, 1987 in Tarzana, Los Angeles, California. She is an American actress and model.
Blake Lively is the daughter of actors Elaine and Ernie Lively. She has a brother named Eric, two half sisters (Lori and Robyn) and a half brother (Jason). Both her parents and her siblings are or were active in the film industry.
Lively's first role was in the 1998 film Sandman. In 2005, she starred in the comedy The Sisterhood of Travelling Pants alongside Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn and America Ferrera. In 2006 she played a role in the film S.H.I.T. Between 2007 and 2012 she played Serena van der Woodsen in the US television series Gossip Girl. This role brought Lively international fame. Since then, Lively has often been defined by her series character. After the series ended in 2012, she appeared in half a dozen films until 2018.
Parallel to her television career, she starred in the dramas The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) and New York, I Love You (2009). In 2010 she starred in the thriller The Town. For her performance in the film, she received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress from the San Diego Film Critics Society, among others. In the film >Green Lantern> (2011) she plays the female lead. In 2011, Lively was the face of Chanel's Mademoiselle handbag line, for which designer Karl Lagerfeld photographed her. In October 2013, Lively was introduced as the new brand ambassador for L'Oréal.
In 2010, she starred in the music video for The Lonely Island and Akon's song I Just Had Sex.
From 2007 to 2010, Lively was in a relationship with series colleague Penn Badgley, whom she met while filming Gossip Girl. In 2011 she had a brief liaison with Leonardo DiCaprio. On September 9, 2012, Lively married Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds after eleven months of dating. Their first daughter was born on December 16, 2014. In September 2016, the two again became the parents of a daughter, and their third daughter was born in August 2019.
In 2018, Lively was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars annually.
