Biography of Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse was born on September 14, 1983 in London.
She is the daughter of Mitch Winehouse and Janis Seaton. She grew up in a Jewish family.
When she turned nine she enrolled in the Susi Earnsh School of Drama. A year later she formed a rap duo. In 1995 she enrolled in Sylvia Young's drama school, from which she was expelled the following year for getting her nose pierced.
She was given her first guitar at the age of thirteen, and one later she started composing music. At sixteen she managed to audition with manager Nick Godwyn, who was surprised to hear the young singer. Along with her new manager, Amy, she traveled to Miami to meet producer Salaam Remi, who hired her for the Island label.
In 2003, her first album, Frank, appeared. This album received positive reviews and was commercially successful in her native country. It went platinum, and was nominated for the Mercury Music Awards, and also won an Ivor Novello Award for the single Stronger than me.
In 2006, she released her second album, Back to Black, produced by Mark Ronson. Within a few weeks of its release, this album went triple platinum. On February 14, 2007, she won a Brit award in the category of Best British Artist. In June 2007, she was again nominated for the Mercury Prize. She also earned three nominations at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.
Her excesses began to be evident. In January 2007, she appeared completely drunk on stage at the G-A-Y Part and threw up after the first song. In May of that year she married her boyfriend in Miami and in November she won the Artist Choice award at the MTV Europe Music Awards. On February 10, 2008, the 2008 Grammy Awards ceremony was held. Amy won five of the six awards for which she was nominated, including: Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female Performance for Rehab, in addition to Best Pop Vocal Album for Back to Black, but the singer was unable to attend the ceremony because the United States initially denied her visa due to "use and abuse of narcotics."
In July she was admitted to a hospital, due to pulmonary emphysema. In addition, a video was released where the singer is allegedly seen smoking crack. Days later, her record company announced that she would enter a detox center of her own free will to counteract her addiction.
In May 2008, the singer participated in the Rock in Rio III festival, in the city of Lisbon. After half an hour of delay and acclaim from her fans, the singer, she went on stage looking bad, a little drunk, staggering and dysphonic. She had to cancel concerts, with her agency having to pay large amounts of compensation.
In July 2009, she filed for divorce from her former husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. That summer she was acquitted of a bodily injury charge against a drunken fan who approached her for an autograph by circling her neck, whom she fended off with an alleged punch. In August 2010 she attended an opening ceremony officiated by the King of the Zulu, Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu. The singer arrived completely drunk, and while the king was giving her speech, she fell asleep. On June 18, 2011, she performed a concert in Belgrade that was described by her own fans as "disastrous" and "scandalous". After starring in this embarrassing show, she was forced to cancel the rest of the concerts.
On July 23, 2011, at the age of twenty-seven, Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment in the London neighborhood of Camden after suffering shock from excessive alcohol consumption after a period of abstinence.
