Shannyn Sossamon was born on October 3, 1978 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is an American actress.

Sossamon grew up in Reno (Nevada) and Los Angeles. She danced a lot in high school; For a long time she wanted to turn her hobby into a career. Things turned out differently when she was discovered by Francine Maisler at a party at Gwyneth Paltrow's where she was making music. She made her TV debut in 1997's Mr. Show with Bob and David. Six months later she was offered a role in the movie A Passion for Knights. This film was followed by 40 Days and 40 Nights, The Rules of the Game, The Holiday and Deathly Call, among others, as well as some promotional appearances (e.g. Gap). From 2004 to 2008, Sossamon was the drummer for the band Warpaint. In 2008 she was seen in the US television series Moonlight, in which she played the vampire Coraline.

Sossamon is in a relationship with a kickboxing trainer. In 2003 she became the mother of a son.
