Biography of Rachel McAdams

Rachel Anne McAdams was born on November 17, 1978 in London, Ontario. She is a Canadian actress.

McAdams was born the daughter of a truck driver and a nurse and grew up in the small town of St. Thomas. She has a younger brother and a younger sister. She began acting at the age of 13, after attending the Central Elgin Collegiate Institute in St. Thomas, she studied acting at York University in Toronto.

Her first roles were in television films and series such as Shotgun Love Dolls and Mission Earth: Final Conflict. She made her big screen debut in the 2002 Italian-Canadian co-production My Name Is Tanino. She was nominated for a Genie Award for Outstanding Newcomer for her role in the small-town drama Perfect Pie, which brought her to Hollywood attention.

Her next film was the 2002 comedy Hot Chick, in which she starred alongside Rob Schneider. However, she gained greater notoriety in 2004 alongside Lindsay Lohan in the film Mean Girls, for which Tina Fey wrote the screenplay. While she played the typical high school teenager in these films, she turned to more serious and mature roles in The Notebook (2004). While filming she also met Ryan Gosling, to whom she later became engaged; the couple announced their separation in 2007.

In 2005, McAdams starred in three films. She starred in the comedy Wedding Crashers alongside Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. On the thriller Red Eye, she collaborated with director Wes Craven. Finally, she starred opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in the comedy The Family Stone! to see.

Between 2006 and 2007, she retired from the public eye to take care of her family and herself. During this time she turned down roles in The Devil Wears Prada, James Bond 007 - Casino Royale, Mission: Impossible III and Get Smart.

In 2009, McAdams made a comeback and received multiple critical acclaim. She received critical acclaim for her performance in State of Play. Shortly thereafter, she starred as Irene Adler in the remake of the Sherlock Holmes novel series, which was followed by the 2012 sequel A Game of Shadow. She stars as Ben Affleck's lover in Malick's drama To the Wonder, while starring opposite Noomi Rapace in De Palma's thriller Passion.

In November 2014, her commitment to a starring role in the second season of HBO's True Detective was announced. She starred alongside Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch.

In 2015, she landed a major role in the film Spotlight, for which she received a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 2016 Academy Awards.

McAdams lives in Toronto with her family. She has been in a relationship with screenwriter Jamie Linden since 2016. Their son was born in 2018.

In August 2020, it was reported that McAdams was expecting her second child with Linden.
