Biography of Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock was born on July 26, 1966 in Arlington, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC, United States.
Her father is of English, Irish, German, and French descent; her mother was German. Her maternal grandfather was a rocket scientist in Germany.
She left New York for Los Angeles and landed a supporting role in the TV version of The Preppie Murder opposite William Baldwin.
After working on low-budget movies like Fire in the Amazon and Who Do I Gotta Kill, she replaced Lori Petty as Sylvester Stallone's partner in the action flick Demolition Man.
Her big jump to fame came with the box office hit Speed. Her next film was While you Were Sleeping.
She worked in The Net, another success, however, as the lead in Two by the Sea she did not get very good reviews and the film was a commercial failure. That same year, A Time To Kill was released, an adaptation of John Grisham's novel.
She starred opposite Chris O'Donnell in Love and War, a film that received poor reviews and on June 13, 1996, the second part of Speed was released in the United States. While she was shooting Two If by Sea (1996), she discovered that she is allergic to horses.
In 1999, she starred in the comedy Forces of Nature with Ben Affleck and in 2000 Gun Shy with Liam Neeson. 28 Days, where she plays an alcoholic woman.
She worked in the Oscar winner for best picture in 2005, Crash, and as best actress, for the drama The BlindSide (2009), she received the Oscar, the Golden Globe, the SAG and the Critics Award.
In 2013 she starred in the comedy The Heat, although her biggest commercial success was with the sci-fi film Gravity (2013) for which she received another Oscar nomination.
As of August 2014, Bullock was listed as the highest-earning actress in Hollywood. In 2015, she voiced the character of Scarlet Overkill for the animated film Minions, which became her highest-grossing film to date. In that same year, she starred in and produced the film Our Brand Is Crisis.
In 2018, she worked on a female spin-off of the Ocean's Eleven franchise, titled Ocean's 8. Bullock later played Malorie in the post-apocalyptic Netflix film Bird Box (2018).
She starred in and produced another 2021 movie for Netflix, The Unforgivable. Directed by Nora Fingscheidt, it is based on the 2009 British miniseries Unforgiven written by Sally Wainwright.
She was engaged to actor Tate Donovan, whom she met on the set of Love Potion #9; their relationship lasted three years. She later dated soccer player Troy Aikman and actors Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling.
On July 16, 2005, she married Jesse James, a television presenter and businessman, on a farm near Santa Bárbara but in 2010 she divorced.
She adopted an African-American boy, Louis Bardo, born in New Orleans, Louisiana. In December 2015, she adopted a three-year-old African-American girl, Laila.
