Lily Jane Collins was born on March 18, 1989 in Guildford, Surrey, England. She is a British actress, model and columnist.
Lily Collins is the daughter of Phil Collins and his second wife Jill Tavelman. She has four half-siblings: actress Joely Collins and musician Simon Collins from her father's first marriage, and two brothers from his third marriage. She attended Harvard Westlake School and briefly studied journalism at the University of Southern California.
As a teenager, Collins wrote the NY Confidential column for British magazine Elle Girl. She has also worked as a columnist for Seventeen, Teen Vogue and Los Angeles Times magazines. In 2008 she hosted the program Kids pick the President on the American television channel Nickelodeon as part of the presidential election. She also won a Young Hollywood Award in the Newest Red Carpet Correspondent category.
In 2009, Collins began her acting career with a guest role in two episodes of the series 90210 as Phoebe Abrams. In the same year she made her film debut as Sandra Bullock's daughter in the drama Blind Side. The film tells the true story of football star Michael Oher.
In 2010, Collins starred alongside Paul Bettany and Cam Gigandet in the vampire film Priest.
In addition to acting, Collins also works as a model. She has appeared on the cover of Glamor magazine, among others, and worked for Chanel.
Collins was originally scheduled to play Mia in the Devil's Dance remake, but left the project in January 2012. In the film Mirror Mirrorshe plays the role of Snow White. For this she also recorded the song I believe in love. In 2013 she took on the leading role in The Mortal Instruments, the novel adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Cassandra Clare.
In 2014, she starred alongside Sam Claflin in the film adaptation of Cecelia Ahern's novel Love, Rosie as the female lead as Rosie.
In August 2013, Collins split from fellow actor Jamie Campbell Bower, whom she met while filming The Mortal Instruments, after a year together. In May 2015 it was announced that the two are a couple again. They separated again that same year.
In 2018 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars annually.
In November 2020, she announced her relationship with American film director Charlie McDowell on Instagram. The couple has been married since September 2021.
