Asin Thottumkal was born on October 26, 1985 in Kochi. She is an Indian film actress, model and stage performer.
Asin was born in Kochi, Kerala. Her father, Joseph Thottumkal originally from Thodupuzha, managed several companies before managing his daughter's career. Her mother, Seline Thottumkal, is a surgeon and lived with her daughter in Mumbai.
She made her acting debut in Sathyan Anthikkad's Malayalam film Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001). Asin had her first commercial success in 2003 with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, and won a Filmfare Award South for Best Actress for the film.
After a string of films, she received her second Filmfare Award South for Best Actress for her performance in her second Tamil film Ghajini (2005). She then went on to play the female lead in the action comedy Varalaru (2006). In 2008, Asin made her debut in Hindi film with Ghajini, the remake of the Tamil film, for which she went on to win the Filmfare Award/Best Debut.
