Rosario Isabel Dawson was born on May 9, 1979 in New York City. She is an American actress.
Dawson's mother is of Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban descent and her father is of Irish descent. She was discovered by photographer and director Larry Clark on the streets of New York in 1995 and landed a role in his film Kids. Dawson then trained as an actress at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. In 2005, she received a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress (Comedy/Musical) for her performance as Mimi in the film Rent.
In 2006, six films starring Dawson were released. Among other things, she starred alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Dito Montiel's Kids - In the Streets of New York. She also starred in Kevin Smiths' Clerks II. In 2006, she co-wrote the graphic novel O.C.T.: Occult Crimes Taskforce with co-author David Atchison. O.C.T. was filmed in 2013, starring Dawson, while also serving as executive producer.
She starred as Nurse Claire Temple on the Marvel Netflix series Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders from 2015 to 2018, being the only cast member to appear in all five series. In the Star Wars live-action series The Mandalorian she played the Jedi Ahsoka Tano for the first time in 2020 and is to continue the role in the upcoming series Ahsoka.
