Rachel Brosnahan was born on July 12, 1990 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is an American television and film actress.

Rachel Brosnahan was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin but grew up in Highland Park, Illinois from the age of four, where she graduated from high school in 2008 and graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts in 2012.

Brosnahan is the niece of handbag designer Kate Spade. Her first television role was in the 2009 horror film The Unborn. While she was in college, episodic roles followed on television shows such as Gossip Girl, The Good Wife, Grey's Anatomy and In Treatment. She made her Broadway debut in 2013 in the play The Big Knife.

Her best-known roles are Rachel Posner in House of Cards, which she played between 2013 and 2015 and which brought her her first Emmy nomination, and Jolene Parker/Lucy Brooks in 2014 in The Blacklist. She had another recurring role in Black Box in 2014 and in 2014-2015 she had a leading role in Manhattan. In 2016, she starred in Patriots Day, a film about the Boston Marathon Bombing. Brosnahan starred in Woody Allen's Prime Video miniseries Crisis in Six Scenes alongside Miley Cyrus and Elaine May for four episodes.

Since 2017, she has played the title role in Amy Sherman-Palladino's Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She received multiple awards for her portrayal of Midge Maisel, a 1950s Jewish housewife who pursues a career in stand-up comedy, including two Golden Globes, an Emmy Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. In December 2020, the film drama I'm Your Woman was released on Prime Video.

Brosnahan is married to actor Jason Ralph.
