Margot Robbie was born on July 2, 1990, on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
She is the daughter of Doug Robbie and Sarie Kessler, a physical therapist. She had three siblings, two boys, Lachlan "Lockie" and Cameron, and a sister, Anya.
They were raised solely by her mother. She liked to visit Dalby, where her grandparents' farm was located, and there was a beach.
At 16, she had three jobs. She graduated from Somerset College where she studied drama at the age of 17, moving to Melbourne at that age to start her professional career.
In 2007, she debuted as an actress on the set of Vigilante (2008) and I.C.U. (2009), two feature films. The following year she participated in a chapter of the Australian series The Elephant Princess and City Homicide.
After landing a supporting role on Neighbors in 2008 as Donna Freedman, she gained a foothold on the series, working on it for nearly three years. The last chapter of it was on January 26, 2011.
She was nominated at the Logie Awards for Most Talented and Popular Rookie in 2009, and in 2011 for Most Popular Actress, as well as the 2009 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards for Favorite Hottie.
Upon her arrival in the United States, she acted in the drama series Pan Am, which was canceled after one season.
She was part of the cast in the Richard Curtis film About Time (2013), Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. Other of his leading films were Focus (2015), sharing a cast with Will Smith, Z for Zacaríah (2015), Suite Française (2015), The Big Short (2015), Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016), The Legend of Tarzan ( 2016), playing Jane, and Suicide Squad (2016).
In 2018, it was announced that she would star in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, a Quentin Tarantino film, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
Robbie played Kayla Pospisil in the drama Bombshell (2019), and in 2020, she is producing the film Promising Young Woman, directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Carey Mulligan.
She acted in the film Birds of Prey (2020) directed by Cathy Yan.
She won the Empire Awards Best Newcomer award for her work in the film The Wolf of Wall Street.
Playboy magazine offered her to appear on its cover, but she refused.
Since 2014, she had been in a relationship with British director Tom Ackerley, whom she met on the set of the movie Suite Française. They married in December 2016 in a private ceremony in Byron Bay, New South Wales.
