Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao was born March 3, 1997 in Havana. She is a Cuban-American singer, songwriter and actress. She rose to fame as a member of girl group Fifth Harmony, which she left on December 18, 2016. Her debut album as a solo artist, Camila, peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The single Havana (2017) became a number one hit in several countries including the United Kingdom and the United States.
Camila Cabello was born in 1997 to a Cuban mother and a Mexican father in Cojímar, a district of the Cuban capital Havana. She has a younger sister. After initially traveling with her family between her parents' two home countries, she immigrated with her mother to the United States via Mexico in 2003, where they settled in Miami, Florida.
Her father was only able to follow a year and a half later. Cabello obtained US citizenship in 2008. In Miami, Cabello attended Palmetto High School, which she left in the ninth grade to focus on her music career. She homeschooled her high school degree. Musically, she was influenced by the singing of Celia Cruz and Alejandro Fernández.
In 2012, she auditioned for the second season of the talent show The X Factor in Greensboro. First eliminated as an individual applicant in "boot camp", she was then brought together by Simon Cowell with four other candidates to form the girl group Fifth Harmony. Although this only took third place on the show, but stayed in the music business.
Fifth Harmony debuted on the Billboard charts with the single Miss Movin' On, released in 2013, and the EP Better Together that followed. The debut album Reflection followed in 2015 with the hit Worth It and in 2016 the album 7/27 with Work from Home, which were also chart successes.
On November 18, 2015, Camila Cabello released the single I Know What You Did Last Summer independently from the group on Island Records, which she sings in a duet with Canadian pop singer Shawn Mendes. The single reached platinum status in the US. The song was written during Taylor Swift's 1989 world tour when Cabello and Mendes were backstage co-writing the duet. Then, in 2016, she released her second single, Bad Things, featuring collaboration with rapper Machine Gun Kelly. This song peaked at number four on the US charts.
On December 18, 2016, Fifth Harmony announced that Camila Cabello was leaving the group of her own accord and that the other members would continue as a foursome.
At the end of October 2018, Cabello announced that he wanted to work on a second album. Cabello was nominated for the 2019 Grammy Awards for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. The 2021 film adaptation of Cinderella, produced by James Corden, stars Cabello. In addition, Cabello was involved in the production and worked on the film music.
On June 25, 2019, she released her second song together with Shawn Mendes, Señorita, which became a number one hit in numerous countries. In May 2019, Camila split from her boyfriend Matthew Hussey, with whom she had been dating since early 2018. Since the summer of 2019, Cabello has been in a relationship with Shawn Mendes. The couple separated in November 2021.
In November 2019, she announced that she would be going on her second world tour, The Romance Tour, from May to September 2020.
On December 6, 2019 she released her second album under the name Romance.
