Rachel Sarah Bilson was born on August 25, 1981 in Los Angeles. She is an American actress.

Rachel Bilson grew up with an older brother. Her father is Danny Bilson and her grandfather is film director, film producer and screenwriter Bruce Bilson. When she was nine years old, her parents divorced. In 1997 her father married the actress Heather Medway, with whom he has two more daughters (* 2001, * 2007).

Bilson graduated from Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles in 1999. Bilson's classmates at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, included actress Kirsten Dunst, actor Rami Malek, andAmerican Idolrunner-up singer Katharine McPhee.

Bilson had her first television roles in 2003 in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A starring role in the film Unbroken followed. She rose to international fame with her portrayal of Summer Roberts on the Fox series The O.C., California.

That same year, Bilson starred opposite Scrubs actor Zach Braff as Kim in The Last Kiss. In 2008, she starred in the film Jumper alongside Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson. From September 2011 to March 2015, Bilson played the title role on The CW series Hart of Dixie. She also appeared in four episodes of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother between 2010 and 2014.

Bilson has been promoting Magnum ice cream since March 2011. The ABC crime series Take Two (2018), starring Bilson, was canceled after one season.

Bilson met actor Hayden Christensen in 2007, to whom she became engaged in December 2008. At the end of October 2014, the two became the parents of a daughter. Her pregnancy also carried over to her role in Hart of Dixie. The couple separated in 2017. She has been in a relationship with Bill Hader since January 2020.
