Mayte Michelle Rodríguez was born on July 12, 1978 in San Antonio, Texas. She is an American actress, environmental activist, and voice actor.

Michelle Rodríguez moved to the Dominican Republic, her mother's homeland, when she was eight years old. From the age of eleven she lived in Puerto Rico, her father's homeland.

After a few minor supporting roles, she became known with her first leading role in the film Girlfight - on her own, for which she had prevailed against 350 applicants at the casting.

After Girlfight other roles in films like The Fast and the Furious (2001), Resident Evil (2002), Blue Crush (2002), S.W.A.T. (2003), in the science fiction film Avatar (2009) and in Robert Rodriguez' Machete (2010).

From 2005 to 2006 she played the character of Ana Lucia in the television series Lost, which she reprized for guest appearances in 2009 and 2010 respectively. In 2011, she appeared alongside Aaron Eckhart in the sci-fi film Battle Los Angeles.

In 2012, Rodríguez returned as Rain Ocampo in Resident Evil: Retribution. In 2013, she starred as Letty in Fast & Furious 6 and again as She/Luz in Machete Kills, the first Machete sequel.

In 2010, Michelle Rodríguez went to Antarctica as a crew member on the Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin on its seventh anti-whaling campaign, Operation No Compromise.
