Biography of Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen was born on November 21, 1985 in Mission, British Columbia, also known by her acronym CRJ. She is a Canadian singer-songwriter. In the summer of 2007, she came in third place on Canadian Idol's fifth season and went on to pursue a solo career. She gained international fame in 2012 with the single Call Me Maybe.

Jepsen attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria BC prior to participating in Canadian Idol. After the Canadian Idol tour, she returned to British Columbia where she focused on songwriting and recording. As a result of their released demo recordings, Jepsen signed a deal with Simkin Artist Management and Dexter Entertainment. She then signed a record deal with the Fontana/MapleMusic music label and collaborated with producer/songwriter Ryan Stewart. She is currently signed to Scooter Braun, who is also Justin Bieber's manager.

Jepsen was in a committed relationship with singer-songwriter Matthew Koma from August 2012 to March 2015.

June 16, 2008 saw the release of Jepsen's debut single Sunshine on My Shoulders, a cover of the John Denver song. Then, on June 18, 2008, she released two songs on Myspace called Bucket and Heavy Lifting. On September 30, 2008 her debut album Tug of War was released, from which four songs were released as singles. In spring 2009, Jepsen went on tour in Canada with the Canadian pop group Marianas Trench and the Canadian pop singer Shiloh.

Jepsen's first EP, Curiosity, was released on February 14, 2012 and reached number six on the Canadian Albums Chart. The first single release Call Me Maybe was released on September 19, 2011, reached number 1 in the Canadian singles chart in January 2012. The single went quadruple platinum, selling over 320,000 copies in Canada. In the Netherlands, the song reached number two in the single charts. Call Me Maybe reached number one in the Danish, British, Finnish, Irish, Australian, New Zealand, Polish, Scottish and US singles charts. The song reached number three in the German charts. In February 2012, Jepsen signed deals with Interscope and Schoolboy Records in Los Angeles. On June 20, 2012 she released the song Good Time together with Owl City.

Her second studio album, Kiss, was released in 2012. However, the video was not officially released because it was too "sexy" for Jepsen's target group. Tonight I'm Getting Over You is the fourth single from Kiss and was released on January 21, 2013. Jepsen also contributed to a single by A Friend in London.

On May 23, 2013 her single Take a Picture was released, which she sang live for the first time on American Idol. Their fans were able to vote on specials for the song and the performance beforehand.

Jepsen released her third studio album Emotion in 2015, which includes the chart hits I Really Like You and Run Away With Me.

With Everywhere You Look, she sang the theme song for the Netflix series Fuller House (2016), the spin-off of Full House (1987-1995).

Jepsen released her studio album Dedicated in 2019 and album The Loneliest Time in 2022.
