Biography of Diane Lane

Diane Colleen Lane was born on January 22, 1965 in New York City. She is an American actress.

The daughter of drama teacher Burton Lane and nightclub dancer Colleen Farrington, Diane Lane was introduced to acting at an early age. She first appeared on stage at the age of six, and at the age of 13 she was cast by director George Roy Hill in his 1978 film I Love You - Je t'aime alongside Laurence Olivier. For this she won the Youth in Film Award for best leading actress in a feature film.

There followed a period of relatively unsuccessful television and feature film appearances before Francis Ford Coppola cast her in The Outsiders and Rumble Fish in the early 1980s. In 1984 she played one of the leading roles in the rock opera "Strasse in Flammen", which later became a cult film, and in Cotton Club.

Expensive Hollywood productions followed, which, however, mostly flopped, so that she finally withdrew from the film business for three years. In the years that followed, Lane attracted attention primarily in smaller, ambitious productions.

In 1995, she starred alongside Sylvester Stallone in the comic book adaptation Judge Dredd, alongside Robin Williams in Jack (1996) and with Wesley Snipes in Murder at 1600 (1997).

In 2002 she finally made her breakthrough as an actress. Her portrayal of Richard Gere's cheating wife in the romantic drama Unfaithful earned her numerous Best Actress awards, as well as a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination.

Lane was married to fellow actor Christopher Lambert from 1988 to 1994, with whom she has a daughter. As of 2004, she was married to Josh Brolin, son of James Brolin and stepson of Barbra Streisand. In February 2013, the couple announced their separation.

Lane is counted among the members of the so-called Brat Pack in some sources, mainly because of her portrayal in Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders. Andy Warhol called her the "undisputed female lead of Hollywood's new rat pack".
