Gwyneth Paltrow was born on September 27, 1973 in Los Angeles, California, United States.
She is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and producer/director Bruce Paltrow.
Her father was Jewish and her mother was Christian. She has a younger brother, Jake Paltrow. Her uncle is opera singer and actor Harry Danner.
She lived in her hometown until she was eleven years old, when her family moved to New York. Her life was always linked to art, since since she was little she used to spend the summer in Massachusetts's Berkshires, where her mother acted. Her first foray into her stages was made by her at the age of five.
In 1991 she began studying Art History at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She speaks Spanish fluently as she lived as an exchange student in the Spanish town of Talavera de la Reina (Toledo), which has named her adoptive daughter.
When she, along with her father and her friends Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw were going to see Silence of the Lambs, waiting in line to get in, Spielberg offered her the role of Wendy in his next production, Hook (1991). The following year she accepted a leading role in the television miniseries, Cruel Doubt. Then she played a student in Malice (1993), opposite Nicole Kidman and Alec Baldwin, and as James Caan's girlfriend in Flesh and Bone.
In 1994 she appeared in Vicious Circle and played Nick Nolte's daughter in Jefferson in Paris (1995) and in the same year she co-starred with Elizabeth Perkins and Whoopi Goldberg in Moonlight and Valentino.
Her big break came in 1995, when she starred in David Fincher's magnificent Seven. During her filming, she and her co-star, Brad Pitt, began a romance that would lead her to appear in magazines around the world.
In 1996 she worked on The Pallbearer and later on the adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, Emma; her first major leading role. James Cameron offered her the role of 'Rose' in Titanic (a role played by Kate Winslet), but she did not accept it.
During 1998, she starred opposite Ethan Hawke and Robert De Niro in Great Expectations, then played Jessica Lange's daughter-in-law in Hush and had to change her look for Sliding Doors. She then took on the role of the adulteress, originally played by Grace Kelly in Alfred Hitchcock's The Fatal Call, in the remake of it, A Perfect Murder.
She gained international recognition with the feature film Shakespeare in Love, where she plays Viola. She won the Golden Globe and the Oscar for best actress of the year (1999).
In 2010 she works in the television series Glee, where she plays Holly Holliday a teacher. In 2011, she appeared in a Steven Soderbergh-directed thriller, Contagion, and in 2012 she starred in the romantic comedy Thanks for Sharing and reprized the role of Pepper Potts in The Avengers, which became the highest-grossing film in the United States.
She followed up with Iron Man 3 (2013), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), reprising the role in 2019's Avengers: Endgame (2019).
She was engaged to actor Brad Pitt, with whom she was related from 1994 to 1997.
She began datingBen Affleck in October 1997 and they split for good in October 2000.
She married on December 5, 2003 with Chris Martin, singer of the group Coldplay. They were the parents of two children Apple and Moses. They separated in March 2014 after ten years of marriage. In April 2015, Paltrow filed for divorce, which was finalized on July 14, 2016.
In August 2014, she began dating TV series Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk. They announced their engagement on January 8, 2018, and were married in September at The Hamptons on Long Island, New York.
