Biography of Melanie C
Melanie Jayne Chisholm was born on January 12, 1974 in Whiston near Liverpool, Merseyside. She is a British singer-songwriter, best known for her membership in the girl group Spice Girls.
From 1994 to 2001 she was a member of the Spice Girls, one of the most famous girl groups of the 1990s, as "Sporty Spice". After the group disbanded, her solo career was the most successful to date, although she also failed to build on the earlier successes of the Spice Girls.
The best-known songs are Never Be the Same Again and I Turn to You from her debut album Northern Star. Chisholm began producing rock music with sensitive lyrics after the Spice Girls ended.
Since the second album Reasonsold less well, the record company Virgin Records dissolved Chisholm's contract. In 2005 she then founded her own label Red Girl Records and produced her third album Beautiful Intentions herself, which cost her around one million euros.
On March 16, 2007, The MomentYou Believe was released as the pre-single to the album This Time, while in the UK, a cover of The Strangeloves' 1960s song I Want Candy was released on March 26. This song was also the theme song for the film of the same name starring Tom Riley, Tom Burke and Carmen Electra.
From March to September 2010, she played the leading role of “Mrs. Johnstone”, for which she was nominated for two prestigious musical awards, including for the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
In September 2011 their fifth album The Sea was released.
In September 2012 their sixth studio album Stages was released.
In December 2012, Chisholm and her Spice Girls colleagues opened the musical "Viva Forever, which is based on the girl band's songs but does not tell their story.
Chisholm's seventh studio album Version of Me was released in October 2016.
In 2019 she again went on a UK stadium tour with the Spice Girls. At the Reeperbahn Festival 2020 she was a member of the six-person jury for the ANCHOR – Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award.
In 2020 she released her eighth studio album Melanie C, which received positive reviews and debuted at number 8 in the UK Albums Chart. In 2021 she was a coach on the UK edition of The Voice Kids.
Chisholm was in a relationship with contractor Thomas Starr from 2002 to July 2012; their daughter was born on February 22, 2009.
