Biography of Delta Goodrem
Delta Lea Goodrem was born on November 9, 1984. She is an Australian singer-songwriter, pianist and actress.
Goodrem has been playing the piano since she was eight. As a child, she did a few commercials and had a guest role on the TV series Police Rescue. She recorded a demo tape when she was 12 and sent it to her favorite football team, the Sydney Swans. Goodrem was hoping to sing Australia's national anthem before a Swans game.
The demo tape was forwarded to manager Glenn Wheatley, a Swans sponsor. Thanks to Wheatley, Goodrem landed a record deal with Sony at the age of 15; a year later their first single I Don't Care was released. However, the already finished album Delta never appeared.
Since 2002, Goodrem has played the role of Nina Tucker in the Australian series Neighbors. Stars like Kylie Minogue, Natalie Imbruglia or Jason Donovan also became known through this series.
Goodrem's second single Born to Try was released on November 11, 2002, which became her first number one hit. Born to Try is also the first release from their debut album Innocent Eyes, from which four more singles followed and also became number one hits.
In the summer of 2003, it was announced that Goodrem had Hodgkin's disease, a type of lymph node cancer. She had to undergo continuous chemotherapy. In the spring of 2004, the cancer was considered defeated. In November 2004, Goodrem started her comeback with the single Out of the Blue and the album Mistaken Identity. Both single and album went back to number one in the Australian charts.
In September 2007, Goodrem released her new single In This Life from her third album Delta which was released on 20 October 2007 in Australia. Both the single and the album reached number one in the Australian charts.
She has been a judge and coach on the Australian singing talent show The Voice, which airs on Nine Network, since season one in 2012.
Her fourth studio album, Child of the Universe (2012), produced the single "Sitting on Top of the World". In 2016, her fifth album, Wings of the Wild, became her fourth number-one album on the ARIA Albums Chart while giving her another number-one single, "Wings". Goodrem's most recent and fifth number-one album, Bridge over Troubled Dreams, was released May 2021.
In 2015, Goodrem made his musical debut in Cats.
In May 2018, the two-part biopic Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted to You starring Goodrem as Olivia Newton-John premiered on Australian television. At the same time, the album I Honestly Love You was released, which contains songs from the film, including Let Me Be There and Love is a Gift in a duet with Newton-John. Goodrem and Newton-John have been friends for several years.
Goodrem dated Irish singer Brian McFadden from 2004 to 2011. She was in a committed relationship with Nick Jonas from mid-2011 to February 2012. She has been in a relationship with musician Matthew Copley since 2017.
