Biography of Doutzen Kroes

Doutzen Kroes was born on January 23, 1985 in Eastermar, Friesland. She is a Dutch model.

After graduating from school in 2003, Kroes sent some holiday photos to the agency "Paparazzi Model Management" in Amsterdam in the hope of earning a little money on the side. She was invited to a professional shoot by the agency's owner, Sarah Keller. Soon after, she received commissions for magazines in the Netherlands.

Kroes does fashion shows for brands like Versace, D&G and Fendi. As Christy Turlington's successor, she promotes Calvin Klein's Eternity perfume worldwide. In 2005 she made her debut at the Victoria's Secret fashion show, where she has been under contract since September 2008. 2014 was her last show as "Angel". In 2006, a documentary was made about her life as a model.

In 2006, when she was still unknown outside of the professional world, she signed an exclusive three-year contract with L'Oréal. She became an internationally known model within a few months.

In 2009, the Swiss cashmere label Repeat signed her. She has since appeared regularly in campaigns and has co-designed several collections for which she was named.

Kroes made her film debut in Reinout Oerlemans' Nova Zembla in 2011, which premiered on November 21. In the film she played the role of Catharina Plancius, the daughter of Petrus Plancius.

In 2014 she was the face of Calvin Klein's new perfume Reveal.

Since August 31, 2016, she has been the new advertising face of Hunkemöller. Since then she has designed and promoted several of her own collections for the Dutch company, including sportswear, swimwear and underwear.

She lives mostly in New York. Since she grew up in the Dutch province of Friesland, she also cultivates her native language, Frisian. Her sports include sailing, surfing/surfing, dancing and ice skating.

Kroes married DJ Sunnery James on November 7, 2010 in her hometown of Eastermar, with whom she had been dating since August 2009. The couple has a son (2011) and a daughter (2014).
