Biography of Cindy Crawford
Cindy Crawford was born on February 20, 1966, on a farm in De Kalb, Illinois.
She was the second of three girls and four boys. Her parents, John Crawford and Jennifer Sue Crawford-Moluf, have divorced. Her brother Jeff, her brother, four years younger than her, died of leukemia for four years. Her older sister, Chris, works as a teacher.
When she was sixteen, Cindy Crawford was working in a cornfield and was photographed by a local newspaper photographer. Her photograph caused such an impact that they convinced her to leave farming to become a model.
She worked for two summers for an agency outside of Chicago while finishing high school.
She got a chemical engineering scholarship, perfectly passing her university calculus exams. She attended college but never graduated.
In 1986, she moved to New York where she tries her luck. Within two years she had become a supermodel.
In 1988, she decided to appear in Playboy. She launched a series of swimsuit calendars. In 1995, Forbes estimated that she was the highest-paid model on the planet, with annual earnings of $6.5 million (Schiffer was second with $5.3 million).
Her company, Crawdaddy Inc., landed contracts from Pepsi, Kay's Jewelers, and Revlon.
She acts in the movie Fair Game, in which she appears alongside Billy Baldwin. Thanks to the critics and the income obtained, she considers other projects and other business opportunities such as the book Cindy Crawford's Basic Face: A Makeup Workbook.
The proceeds she earned from her calendars were donated to a leukemia association in the name of her brother Jeff.
In September 2017, along with models Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, and Carla Bruni, she closed the Versace spring/summer 2018 fashion show, in tribute to the late Gianni Versace.
In January 2019, she along with her husband Rande Gerber, Mike Meldman, Jeff Shell and Jay Sures announced their purchase of Hollywood deli Nate'n Al.
In 1991 she married actor Richard Gere and in 1998 Rande Gerber with whom she has two children, Presley Walker (born July 2, 1999) and Kaia Gerber (born September 3, 2001).
In August 2021, she sold her house in Trousdale Estates, Beverly Hills, for $13.5 million.
