Amrita Rao was born on June 17, 1981 in Chitrapur, Karnataka. She is an Indian actress and model.

Amrita Deepak Rao was born into a wealthy family in Mumbai. Her father Deepak Rao owns an advertising agency. Her younger sister, Preetika Rao, is a model and an actress inSouth Indian cinema. Rao attended theCanossa Convent Girls Schooland completed a psychology degree atSophia College, University of Mumbai. Rao describes her family as a "very conservative family - a traditional Indian Hindu family" and describes herself as very liberal. Her native language is Konkani, but she also speaks Marathi, English and Hindi. After 7 years, she married her boyfriend in Mumbai on May 15, 2016.

Her film debut was in 2002's Ab Ke Baras, but she only rose to stardom with the film Ishq Vishk. This was followed by Masti and Main Hoon Na, which further increased their popularity. As a result, she could not build on these successes, although her acting achievements were highly appreciated by the critics. She was successful again with her last film by Sooraj R. Barjatya (Vivah).
