Biography of Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly was born on September 16, 1968 in Harbor City, Los Angeles, California.
She is the daughter of Harry Chan, a used car salesman, and Patricia Tilly, a school teacher and former Canadian theater actress. Her father is of Chinese descent and her mother of Finnish and Irish. She had an older brother, Steve, and two younger sisters, Meg, also an actress, and Rebecca.
Following her parents' divorce, when she was five years old, she was raised by her mother and her stepfather, John Ward, on Texada Island, British Columbia. Her mother divorced again and when Tilly was 16, she moved to Victoria, where she attended Belmont High School. She received a BA in Theater from the University of Missouri.
She embodied the "sexy but naive girl" very much in the vein of Marilyn. She worked in The Getaway and in Woody Allen's film Bullets over Broadway, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
She has also appeared on television, in the series Remington Steele, Boone, Cheers, Hill Street Blues, and Moonlighting.
In 1993, she received the Theater World Award for her performance in One Shoe Off. She acted in the plays The Women (2001) and Don't Dress for Dinner (2012).
In 2017, she shot Eric Balfour's 7 Days to Vegas and Alan Rudolph's drama Ray Meets Helen.
She was romantically linked with her Shadow of the Wolf co-star, Lou Diamond Phillips, and married Sam Simon, producer of The Simpsons, in 1984. They divorced in 1991.
She began a relationship with poker player Phil Laak in 2004.
In 2007, she was nominated as one of the 50 actresses with the best bust in Hollywood.
She is an excellent poker player. On June 27, 2005, she won the World Series of Poker and $158,625 in No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em beating 600 other players.
On September 1, 2005, she won the third World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational Tournament which was held at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. She appeared in the GSN Poker Royale.
