Emanuela de Paula was born on April 25, 1989 in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Pernambuco. She is a Brazilian photo and catwalk model.
Emanuela de Paula, the daughter of a black father, who works as a radio host in her native city, and a white mother, was discovered for the modeling business on a street in Recife, northern Brazil. She then took part in a beauty pageant and won the title of Miss Pernambuco infantil (child) in 1997. At the age of nine, de Paula was first booked as a model and used for supermarket advertising. At 15, she went looking for an agency and was immediately hired by New York's Marilyn Agency.
In 2005 she relocated to New York and began walking the runway in fashion by designers Ralph Lauren, Bill Blass and Zac Posen. She was subsequently booked by Diane von Fürstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Yigal Azrouël, Rebecca Taylor, Alexandre Herchcovitch, as well as the labels Lacoste, H & M and 'Sweetface', the fashion line by Jennifer Lopez. Above all, de Paula became internationally known for her work for Victoria's Secret. In 2008 and 2010 she appeared at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which was particularly well received in the USA. She has also been featured in leading fashion magazines such as Allure, Marie Claire and Vogue.
Emanuela de Paula, who is 1.77 meters tall, is considered one of the few dark-skinned supermodels who have been able to establish themselves internationally. According to Forbes Magazine, the Brazilian was the 11th highest paid model in the world in 2009 with an annual income of $2.5 million.She still lives in New York, but also appears regularly in her Brazilian homeland on the catwalk (e.g. as part of the São Paulo Fashion Week). In local newspaper articles she is compared to Gisele Bundchen.
