Kareena Kapoor Khan was born on September 21, 1980, Bombay, India. She is an Indian film actress from the Kapoor cinematic dynasty. She is one of the highest paid actresses in India. Winner of five Filmfare Awards in the women's game categories (excluding special awards).
She is the fourth generation of one of the most influential clans in Indian cinema - the Kapoor family. Great-granddaughter of Prithviraj Kapoor, granddaughter of the great director and actor Raj Kapoor, daughter of Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita, great-niece of Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. Her uncles are actors Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor and her cousin is Ranbir Kapoor. Her sister Karisma Kapoor is also an actress.
In 2000, Kareena Kapoor made her debut in the film "Refugee", where another offspring of the star family, Abhishek Bachchan, became her partner. The picture brought her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress.
In 2001, the film Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai was released, where she played along with debutant Tusshar Kapoor. The other film of that year was Yaadein, opposite Hrithik Roshan, which failed at the box office. She also played the role of Princess Kaurvaki in the film Asoka, which also failed at the box office, despite a positive review. But the melodrama "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham by Karan Johar was a success at the box office, collecting more than 18 million dollars abroad.
In 2003, all six films with her participation failed at the box office. In 2004, she reclaimed her position in the film industry with the release of Dev, where she played a young "moth" who meets a widower banker. The film was a commercial success and earned her a special Filmfare Award.
In 2006, 36 China Town and Omkarawere released and were commercially successful. Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. It was also screened at international film festivals in Cairo and Marrakesh and earned the actress her fourth Filmfare award, this time from critics. In the same year, she played a small role as the avenger Kamini at the beginning of the film Don.
In 2007, the romantic comedy Jab We Met was released, where she co-starred with then-boyfriend Shahid Kapoor. The film was a commercial success and earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
In 2009, the comedy 3 Idiots, in which Kareena played the lead female role, grossed over $36 million in India and almost $20 million worldwide, becoming the highest grossing Indian film and holding that title in for 4 years. In the same year, Karina made her debut as a dancer in the item number for the song "Marjaani" for the film Billu.
In 2011, Bodyguard starred with Salman Khan and Ra.One again opposite Shah Rukh Khan was released, both of which were commercially successful. In 2012, she co-starred with Imran Khan in the romantic comedy Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. In the same year, the spy thriller Agent Vinod was released, where she played along with her husband Saif Ali Khan.
Also released was the film "Actress", from the role in which she initially refused, but subsequently again received an offer from the director when Aishwarya Rai, approved for the role, left the project due to her pregnancy.
In 2015, the only film with her participation,Bajrangi Bhaijaan, was released, where she again played along with Salman Khan. The film became the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2015. In the same year, two films were released, where she appeared in cameo roles in Gabbar is Back and Brothers. In the first, she played a cameo role as the protagonist's wife, in the second, she performed a dance in the musical number for the song "Mera Naam Mary Hai".
In 2016, she starred opposite Arjun Kapoor in the romantic comedy Ki & Ka, about a couple who switch traditional roles of husband and wife, which was a commercial success. In the same year, she played the role of doctor Preet Sahni in the drama The Udta Punjab, for which she received a Filmfare nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Her latest film work so far was the film "Best Friend's Wedding" with Sonam Kapoor and Shikha Talsania.
She began dating actor Shahid Kapoor in 2004. This relationship lasted 3 years.
On October 16, 2012, she married Indian actor Saif Ali Khan, with whom she had been in a relationship since 2007. On December 20, 2016, Karina gave birth to a son, who was named Taimur Ali Khan . On February 21, 2021, the second son was born to the spouses.
