Hailee Steinfeld was born on December 11, 1996 in Tarzana, Los Angeles, California. She is an American actress and singer.
Steinfeld was born in the Tarzana area of Los Angeles. Her parents are interior designer Cheri Steinfeld and Peter Steinfeld, a personal trainer. Her cousin is actress True O'Brien. Steinfeld's maternal grandfather is Filipino. She is a great-niece of former child actor Larry Domasin.
When she was still young, she moved to Agoura Hills with her parents and her brother Griffin, who was about two years older than her. She grew up there and attended first Conejo Elementary School and later Colina Middle School, which she left at the end of her freshman year to receive home schooling.
Steinfeld gained his first experience in acting by as Kmart. She made her film and television debut in 2007 when she starred in an episode of the short-lived series Back to You. This was followed by various appearances in mostly youth-oriented films from 2008 such as Heather: A Fairy Tale, in which she played the leading role, She's a Fox, Grand Cru, and Without Wings. After appearing in five well-known film productions until 2010, she appeared in an episode of Sons of Tucson in the same year.
In 2010, she starred in True Grit, an adaptation by the Coen brothers of Charles Portis' novel of the same name. She starred alongside Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper and has received several awards for it. In 2011 she was nominated for an Oscar and the British BAFTA Award, among others.
In 2013, she starred in the film Romeo & Juliet (2013), based on Shakespeare's work, opposite Douglas Booth as Romeo. Additionally, Steinfeld starred in Ender's Game (2013). She appeared as Emily Junk in Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and Pitch Perfect 3 (2017).
After performing Flashlight in Pitch Perfect 2, Steinfeld released a cover of the song and subsequently signed to Republic Records. In 2015, Steinfeld released her first single, Love Myself, which went platinum in the US and silver in the UK.
In December 2016, Steinfeld was recognized for her role as Nadine Franklin in the dramedy The Edge of Seventeen, among others. nominated for a Golden Globe.
In 2018 she played the lead role of Charlie Watson in Bumblebee. Also in 2018, Steinfeld lent her voice to Gwen Stacey in Spider-Man: A New Universe. From 2019 to 2021 she starred in the series Dickinson as Emily Dickinson.
In the Marvel series Hawkeye, which was released in 2021, Hailee Steinfeld plays one of the main roles alongside Jeremy Renner, Kate Bishop. She has also been lending her voice to Vi in Arcane since 2021.
In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars annually.
